Creating professional profiles

Applying for College

  • A discussion of college goals based on location and financial ability will be consulted with students and parents.

  • “What problem do you want to solve?”, a question we ask students to figure out their passions, purpose for going to college, and the path to guide them with college options that best align to solve the problem.

  • A digital housekeeping will be carried out on students’ social media accounts to create a good social profile.

  • Creating a proper student email to apply for college applications and platforms to sign up for college.

  • A thorough review and discussion on school reference, college admission, and quick-application letters to help students apply for college with proper documentation and tuition waiver fees information.

  • When should I start applying for college?
Early to mid-August. Some schools do not open applications until September. Most schools are on a rolling admission. Rolling admission means they review and provide acceptance (and scholarships) as applications are received.
  • What is the difference between Early Decision, Early Action, and Regular Decision
Early Decision: Early decision plans are binding — a student who is accepted as an Early Decision applicant must attend the college. Early Action: Early action plans are nonbinding — students receive an early response to their application but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1. Regular Decision: Decisions are made usually on a rolling admission or posted by the schools on a predetermined date for all applications.
  • What is the deadline to finalize my college decision before losing my spot as a freshman and losing scholarships offered?
Deadline for almost all universities is May 1st.
  • What about scholarships? There are many types of scholarships, for the sake of space, we will discuss three types:
School Acceptance: These are scholarships provided by the school based on your initial application. This are usually provided at the time of acceptance. School Funded: These are scholarships provided by the school or an organization affiliated with the school. These scholarships usually require additional applications, letters, and interviews. These are usually provided after acceptance and before May 1st decision deadline. Community: These are scholarships provided by civic, government, private, and corporate entities and are award continually throughout the year.
  • Why should I apply to a minimum of 10 schools?
Three (3) Reach schools. These are schools where your academic performance is just below the average admission for the last couple of years. Six (6) Match schools. These are schools that aligned with your academic performance. Two (2) Guarantee schools. These are schools that recruit you directly and offer acceptance prior to completing the application. This is usually based on test scores, national awards, or academic performance.
  • When should I start applying internships and full-time positions?
Students should start applying August of the year before the summer, yes 9 months in advance. Several companies secure their internships and full-time employees before the end of September for a June next year start.
  • When should I stop applying for internships and full-time positions?
When you secure a position that aligns with your passion.
  • How many jobs should I apply per week?
    5-10 jobs per week
  • Does YourNextSteps-US have connections with corporations to assist with jobs?
Yes, the Board members and Champions have an extensive network in the corporate space.
